China's All-China Patent Attorneys Association (ACPAA) elected new leadership on Wednesday, pledging to strengthen the country's intellectual property (IP) landscape and propel modernization efforts.

The 11th general assembly saw the selection of 237 council members, 79 standing council members, a president, 15 vice-presidents, and a secretary-general.

The conference also reviewed and approved reports on the previous council's work, finances, and a proposed amendment to the association's operating rules.

Shen Changyu, head of China's National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), commended the ACPAA's achievements, highlighting its contributions to enhancing patent attorney capabilities and fostering international IP exchanges.

Shen urged patent attorneys and agencies to prioritize quality while encouraging the association to broaden its service scope, strengthen ties with members, and maintain close collaboration with the IP regulator.

Established in 1988, the ACPAA is a nationwide, non-profit, self-governing organization approved by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and CNIPA. It serves as a key player in IP intermediary services and a vital force within China's IP ecosystem.

The association's core functions include training patent attorneys, safeguarding their rights, supporting IP administration in patent attorney qualification exams, and participating in international IP activities. This general assembly, the first since 2019, serves as the ACPAA's primary decision-making body.
