Recently, NTD won a major victory on behalf of IGUS GmbH (hereinafter referred as to IGUS), in a large scale of patent infringement disputes.
IGUS produces high speed mute drag chain and three-dimensional drag chain which are the two important products widely used in CNC machine tools, robots, and other fields. Since its entry into Chinese market, IGUS has been bothered by infringing products. In 2019, NTD was selected and authorized to deal with the infringements and litigations in China. With the assistance of NTD attorneys, nearly 30 patent infringement cases were settled by means of civil proceedings, court mediation, reconciliation, and negotiation. 7 manufacturers handed over the molds for making the infringing products. 2 manufacturers destroyed the molds under the supervision of NTD attorneys and handed over 20 different types of molds and promised to design around in the future. 28 patents were transferred to IGUS from the accused infringers. 1 infringer was renamed due to its business competition with IGUS.
In spite of the invalidation actions by infringers against IGUS during the infringement proceedings, NTD attorneys succeeded in maintaining the validity of all patents owned by IGUS. IGUS’s victory over the infringers strictly cracked down the source of infringements, prevented the repeated infringements, and made practical and effective contributions to further improving the business environment for the foreign enterprises in China.

Gavin JIA
Mr. JIA has more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property field. He provides legal services in areas such as patent litigation, patent reexamination and invalidation, patent infringement and stability assessment, and technical secret protection, etc. He also provides legal services in all areas of intellectual property including enterprise intellectual property strategy establishing, intellectual property due diligence, intellectual property licensing, and contract drafting and review, etc.
Mr. JIA has handled hundreds of patent litigations before the local courts and the Supreme Court and invalidation actions before CNIPA, and has extensive practical experience in complex intellectual property dispute solution and licensing and transaction-related legal affairs. He has special expertise in handling legal affairs related to equipment manufacturing, high-end medical device, artificial intelligence, automobile manufacturing, new materials, and other technologies. The clients he serves include Johnson & Johnson, Intel, Bosch, Danone, Unilever, Volvo, Toshiba, Hitachi, Sumitomo, Shanghai Automobile and other well-known multinational and domestic corporations.
He was elected as one of the “High-Level Intellectual Property Personnel” by All-China Patent Attorneys Association, and participated in the compilation of several books in intellectual property field, such as “Patent Agency in Patent Application Reexamination and Patent Invalidation” and “Design Protection - Regulations and Practices in Germany, the European Union, the United States, Japan, China and South Korea”.
Lesley LIU
Ms. LIU graduated from Law School, Peking University. She has been engaged in intellectual work since 2010 and joined NTD in 2015. Ms. LIU provides legal service in areas such as intellectual property litigation, patent reexamination and invalidation, patent infringement and stability assessment, and unfair competition litigation, etc. At the same time, she provides in all areas of intellectual property including corporate intellectual property management and system design, trade secret risk prevention and control, corporate intellectual property strategy consulting, intellectual property licensing, contract drafting and review, and internal corporate training, etc. She has special expertise in handling legal affairs related to equipment and electrical manufacturing, high-end medical device, artificial intelligence, automobile manufacturing, new materials, and other technologies.
Prior to joining NTD, Ms. LIU was in charge of a number of provincial and ministerial level researches of intellectual property rights, especially having unique insights into the problems faced by small and medium-sized enterprises in intellectual property management. Ms. LIU also participated in the revision work of the laws and regulations on intellectual property, such as the revision of the “Patent law”, Service Invention Regulations, and Administration Regulations for the National Standards Relating Patents (Provisional), etc.
Zhihui WANG
Ms. WANG graduated from School of Materials, Tsinghua University. She has been engaged in intellectual property work since 2014 and joined NTD in 2018. She has many years of practical experience in patent drafting, search, analysis and litigation. She provides legal service in areas such as patent infringement litigation, patent administrative litigation, patent reexamination and invalidation, patent search, FTO, patent infringement and patentability assessment, patent contract disputes, trade secret disputes, and other related matters. The technical direction involves machinery, materials, electronics, medical, and other technologies.
