In recent days, China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) released Statistics on Intellectual Property from January to March of 2021. Compared with 2020, the granted invention patents increased by 66,345 (+77.15% year-over-year growth), and the granted utility models increased by 248,347 (+72.27% year-over-year growth), and the granted designs increased by 21,236 (+14.39% year-over-year growth). The trademark registrations reached 2,117,099, with an increase of 750,075 (+60.27% year-over-year growth).
The total in force of invention patents, utility models and designs reached 12,843,704; the total in force of trademarks reached 32,094,404.
Moreover, CNIPA issued the Annual Guidelines for Promoting the High-quality Intellectual Property Development (2021), one objective of which is that the quality and efficiency in examination of intellectual property will be constantly improved. The pendency for examining invention patents and high-value patents will respectively be reduced to 18.5 months and 14 months. The average pendency for trademarks was curtailed to four months.
From January to March of 2021, 152, 342 invention patents have been granted. By the end of March, the total of valid invention patents has reached 3,177,299.
From January to March of 2021, 591, 965 utility models have been granted. By the end of March, the total of valid utility models has reached 7,388, 451.
From January to March of 2021, 168,800 designs have been granted. By the end of March, the total of valid designs has reached 2,277,954.
From January to March, CNIPA received 14,766 PCT applications for patent, in which 13,599 were filed by the domestic applicants.
From January to March, 2,117,099 trademarks were registered. By the end of March, the valid trademark registrations have reached 32, 094, 404.
From January to March, the applications for trademark opposition have reached 42,263. 39,741 cases were closed.
From January to March, 90,403 applications for multiple trademark reviews and adjudications were received, and 91,852 were closed.
From January to March, CNIPA received 6 applications for GI products, and approved 82 GI products. 1,461 market entities were approved to use special GIs. 124 GI trademarks were approved to be registered.
From January to March, CNIPA received 3,687 applications for layout designs of integrated circuits, and approved 4,639 to be certificated.
