In recent days, China's National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has released Statistics on Intellectual Property of February of 2020. The number of patent granting for invention has increased by 39,238 (+71.62% year-on-year growth); the granting for utility model have increased by 131,127 (+55.03% year-on-year growth); the granting for design have decreased by 8,871 (-8.39).
The number of trademark registrations has reached 1,358,311, an increase of 510,824 (+60.27% year-on-year growth).
In recent days, China's National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) issued the Annual Guidelines for Promoting the High-quality Intellectual Property Development (2021) with a total of 22 provisions, one of which cited that the period for reviewing invention patents shall be reduced to 18.5 months as for the ongoing increase in efficiency and quality of examination. The period for reviewing high-valued invention patents shall be reduced to 14 months, and the average period for reviewing trademark registration shall be maintained within 4 months.
Since January of 2021, CNIPA’s monthly statistics has not published the number of three types of patent applications and trademark registrations.
Patent
From November to February, 2020, the number of granted invention patents has reached 94,028. By the end of February, we have 3,131,033 invention patents in valid.
From November to February, 2020, the number of granted utility models has reached 369,403. By the end of February, we have 7,229, 444 utility models in valid.
From November to February, 2020, the number of granted design patents has reached 96, 815. By the end of February, we have 2,240,826 design patents in valid.
Trademark
From November to February, 2020, the number of trademark registrations has reached 1,358,311. By the end of February, we have 31,394,824 registered trademarks in valid.
From November to February, 2020, the number of applications for trademark opposition has reached 28,764. By the end of February, 25,178 cases were closed.
Geographical Indications and Layout Designs of Integrated Circuits
From November to February, 2020, CNIPA received 4 applications of geographical indication products, of which 3 applications were approved. 869 marked entities were approved to use special GIs. 42 GI trademarks were approved to be registered.
From November to February, 2,005 applications of layout designs of integrated circuits were registered, and 3,077 were approved.
