The Supreme People’s Procuratorate recently held a press briefing, reporting the intellectual property prosecutions handled by relevant procuratorial organs. To enhance IPR protection in all aspects and optimize its functions, the Supreme People's Procuratorate has established a new IP office.
For the past few years, the procuratorial organs have strictly cracked down the cases concerning IPR infringements. From 2016 to 2020, +28,000 people involved in +16,300 cases were arrested, and +45,000 people were against public prosecution in the cases of +23,000. The procuratorial organs have supervised the public security organs to handle 661 cases concerning 817 people. The Supreme People’s Procuratorate also solely or jointly with other related organs supervised to investigate 177 typical cases concerning intellectual property rights protection, including QvodPlayer Case, Case over infringement by eight persons including Chen Li concerning the copyright of works including The Wandering Earth, Case over counterfeiting famous handwriting and painting, etc.
