From January to September 2020, there have been 1.103 million patent applications for invention and 361,000 granted; 2.133 million applications for utility models applied and 1.725 granted; 561,000 domestic applications for design and 555,000 granted. From January to September 2020, the number of trademark applications there were 6.867 million, the number of trademark registrations was 4.131 million, 670 enterprises were approved to use special marks for geographical indication products, 439 geographical indication trademarks were approved to be registered, and the layout design of integrated circuits was registered, as well as there were 8,851 applications and 8,024 certificates were issued in China.
1.Patent
From January to September 2020, there have been 1.103 million patent applications for invention and 361,000 granted. As of the end of September 2020, the number of effective invention patents in China was 2.929 million, of which, the effective number of domestic (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) invention patents was 2.095 million, and the number of invention patents per 10,000 population reached 15.0.
From January to September, applications for utility model were 2.133 million, and 1.725 million were granted. As of the end of September 2020, the effective number of utility model patents was 6.494 million.
From January to September, there had been 561,000 applications for design and 555,000 granted. As of the end of September 2020, the effective number of design patents was 2.102 million.
From January to September, CNIPA received 49,000 PCT patent applications, of which 45,000 were domestic.
From January to September, CNIPA received 40,300 reexamination requests and closed 37,900 cases. Accepted 4,400 invalidation requests and closed 6,100 cases.
2. Trademark
From January to September 2020, the number of trademark applications in China was 6.867 million, and the number of trademark registrations was 4.131 million. As of the end of September 2020, there were 28.717 million valid registered trademarks.
From January to September, 98,000 trademark opposition applications were filed in China, and 105,000 opposition cases were reviewed.
From January to September, CNIPA received 5,836 applications for Madrid trademark international registration from Chinese applicants.
From January to September, CNIPA received 262,000 applications for various trademark review cases and closed 267,000 cases.
3. Geographical indications and integrated circuit layout design
From January to September 2020, CNIPA approved 670 companies using special signs for geographical indication products, and approved 439 registration of geographical indication trademarks. As of September 2020, a total of 2,385 geographical indication products have been approved, 9,184 companies using special signs have been approved, and a total of 5,757 geographical indication trademarks have been registered.
From January to September 2020, there were 8,851 applications for registration of layout designs of integrated circuits in China, and 8,024 were issued.
