With the approval of the Supreme People's Court, Shenzhen Intellectual Property Court and Shenzhen Financial Court were officially established on December 26, 2017.
The establishment of the special courts will help to improve the capability of case handling in Guangdong province. The statistics show that every year courts in Guangdong receive a large number of intellectual property and financial cases, and the number is on a rapid increase. In 2016, courts in Guangdong concluded about 42,000 intellectual property cases, and around 190,700 financial cases, both ranked top in China. In 2016, courts in Shenzhen concluded 14,887 first instance intellectual property cases, an increase of 63.2%, as compared with that of the previous year, which accounted for half of the total amount in the country, and 12,607 financial dispute cases, twice the number of 2015. Located in Qianhai Cooperation Zone, Shenzhen Intellectual Property Court is responsible for intellectual property cases under the jurisdiction of Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court, while Shenzhen Financial Court is responsible for first instance civil and commercial financial cases outside the jurisdiction of Shenzhen local courts, and civil commercial appeal cases.
