Recently, Beijing E-commerce Intellectual Property (Patent) Protection Alliance (hereinafter the alliance) was officially established, which is the first e-business alliance in Beijing. Beijing Intellectual Property Office signed the alliance agreement with 20 e-commerce platforms, including JD.com, Dangdang and Gome online.
Beijing, as one of the first e-business leading cities in China, had 355 e-commerce platforms by the end of 2015. Among the online wholesale and retail enterprises, there are 4 enterprises with sales of over 10 billion Yuan, and 49 enterprises with sales of over 100 million Yuan. However, a large number of intellectual property issues, especially patent infringement disputes and pass-off of patents have disturbed the development of e-business enterprises. With the increasing number of patent infringement cases, the handling e-business patent infringement is lagging behind. The major tasks of the alliance is to set up an efficient and rapid mechanism for patent protection, help enterprises make professional judgment on patent infringement, establish the information sharing platform, and improve the capability for patent creation, utilization, protection and management.
