According to the report by the Ministry of Science and Technology, by the end of 2015, there were a total of 355,000 R&D personnel in Chinese colleges and universities, an increase of 46.7% as compared with that of 2006, which ranked first in the world. Meanwhile, colleges and universities kept increasing R&D funds, with the funds reaching 99.86 billion Yuan, which was 3.6 times as much as that of 2006.
In 2015, Chinese colleges and universities received over 35 billion Yuan R&D funds, and the direct trading volume of scientific achievements exceeded 2 billion Yuan. A total of 136,000 patents were granted to colleges and universities in 2015, among which, 57,000 were invention patents, which accounted for over 1/5 of the total national patents. It is reported that among the 1,762 colleges and universities surveyed, 573 have established their own departments to commercialize and spread technical achievements, and 312 have established websites to promote the commercialization of technical achievements.
